About Me:
Piano: I have been teaching piano for about three years, and have loved every second of it. I grew up taking lessons at Londonderry Piano starting 8 or 9 years ago, and I still use the same books in my lessons that I used when I was learning. When it comes to the younger students, I always try and let the parent know what we are doing. If the parent is unaware of what is going on, he or she cannot help their child practice. I am a theory based teacher. I don’t just teach how to play something, but I also stress the understanding of it. It’s one thing to see a piece for the notes and play it, it is another thing to see the piece for it’s emotion and interpret it.
Currently, I am junior at Merrimack College. I am a double major: history and French. My three passions are music, languages and history. I speak English and French fluently, a good amount of Spanish, and a little German.
When it comes to music, I love impressionism and jazz. The great composers of the French impressionism like Claude Debussy, Eric Satie and Maurice Ravel greatly influence my musical outlook. Jazz has also impacted my outlook on music by allowing me to see things from a different light. I love Mose Allison, and am always trying to learn something new every time I listen to an album of his.
My true linguistic passions are English and French. I have always been amazed at the contrast of the two languages, while at the same time mesmerized by how beautiful both of them are. I always try to speak of hear some French everyday. My favorite band is from Québec, I listen to Radio-Canada, and I love ready about French and Québécoise history.
In terms of history, I am enticed by American and Québécoise history. I love discussing the American Revolution, of the French and Indian War (or La conquête as is said in Québec). I am always slipping history into my life. I find it relevant in everything I do and think, and am always trying to make connections.
